BOSTON MARATHON 2023 SHAKEOUT RUNS

One of the many good things about Boston Marathon weekend is the buzz around the city. There are so many groups out running and brands or influencers organising shakeout runs. It is hard to pick which one(s) you want to do and you could quite easily clock up more miles shaking out than the 26.2 on big day.

I had wanted to run the Tracksmith shakeout run which was on Saturday morning but after arriving late in Boston I decided to get the Boston Marathon Registration and Expo done instead. I did have a place booked on the Puma shakeout run Saturday afternoon and I really wanted to get to Seth Demoor’s group run Sunday.

Puma: Forever. Faster. Boston Shakeout:

I found out about the Puma: Forever. Faster shakeout run via the Kofuzi run club on Strava. This was a shakeout as the title suggests, run by Puma where they gave you the opportunity to try out some of the new shoes which use the Nitro foam.

I wanted a neutral shoe with some cushioning given it was only a shakeout run and no need for any carbon rods. They suggested I tried the Puma Velocity 2 and I was really impressed. I don’t think I have had any Puma shoes since I was in school 30 years ago and certainly never had a Puma running shoe. They were really comfortable and soft underfoot, I may even now have a look at trying a pair out for easy runs when I get back home.

The weather on that Saturday was pretty warm for mid-April. By the time we got going just after 2pm it was pushing 23’c, far too warm to be running a marathon but ok for a shakeout. Thankfully, marathon Monday is set to be cooler.

I grabbed a couple of photos with Kofuzi and Matt Bertrand two guys I follow on YouTube and chatted about all things Boston and their race plans etc.

The run? that was just a 1.5-mile run along the Charles River and back to the base camp where we had water and cupcakes waiting for us.

Demoor Global Running Group Run:

Sunday morning the weather was more like what I am used to. 9’c, cloudy and drizzly. Perfect weather for a marathon I must say.

My plan for this morning was to join the DGR Boston Group Run. I have watched Seth James Demoor’s YouTube vlog since November 2019 when we were both gearing up to run the New York City Marathon 2019. I have followed along ever since so I really wanted to take this chance to meet up with Seth and join his group run.

The train into Downtown Boston took quite a bit longer than expected so I was getting a hustle on to make it there for 9am and got to the park bang on 9am thankfully.

Seth chatted with the group, gave out some DGR stickers and caps and we went off along the Charles River for a 3 mile out and back.
