MYANMAR CYCLE TOUR 2019 – DAY 2: REST DAY IN YANGON

We start where we ended DAY 1 in Singapore Airport, we are only here for two hours then it is another 2 hour flight into Yangon. I wont bore you with another plane photo, they all look the same.

The jet lag kicked in by the time we arrived in Yangon. We landed at 9:30am Sunday morning, the body clock still on UK time thinking it is 2:50am and no sleep.

Typically, my bag was the last one off the carosell. I was getting a little worried that it wouldn’t come. I did plan ahead just in case my bag didn’t make it, by packing two days worth of cycle gear in my carry on luggage.

Once we got out of the airort it was off to the hotel to drop our bags off and straight out sightseeing.

Our hotel is the Grand Unted Ahlone Beach, the room is really good with a balance view across Yangon, over looking the Shwedagon Pagoda.

The lack of sleep was a proper taking hold, I was flaking out getting back on the bus. Whilst on the bus we kept noticing the locals stopping and pointing at us and waving. I guess they don’t get too many western tourists coming to the country so it must be a rare thing seeing a western visitor.

We went to the Shwedagon Pagoda first off, walking around there was an amazing experince. It is such a stunning and impressive temple.

Whilst walking around the Pagoda, we all had the sureal moment where the locals were coming up and taking selfies with us and then showing their friends. It felt very strange but also a like glimps of what celebs go through on a daily basis. You were feel someone edging up to you and takig a shifty selfie.

After that we went for some lunch in a small back street restaurant to get the true feel of Burmese food. It didn’t look the best from the outside, but the food was nice and after only eating plane food for 24hrs, it was very much required.

We then headed back to the hotel for a few hours rest before grabbing dinner and an early night ready for another early start and yet another fight in the morning.

I did take the opportunity to head out and get in a 4 mile easy paced run, the heat and humidty was something else though. 30’c “feels like” 44’c and 80% humidity. Needless to say, the shirt was dripping. It was good getting out and running though, that really shook out the jet lag and left me feel wide awake for the evening meal.
